9/2: Cop arrested on DUI 

A great Labor Day weekend is shaping up, with seasonal temps in the upper 80's and minimal rain chances. Monday is the best chance of rain and storms.

Our Top National Story:  Gulf Coast states are hunkering down ahead of an expected weekend drenching from a tropical system in the Gulf.  It's a tropical depression now, and could become Tropical Storm Lee.  Some areas could get 20 inches of rain.

The White House says there's room in the budget deal with Congress for more disaster aid without offsetting cuts elsewhere. The administration says there's a need for more than $5 billion in additional disaster relief and that Congress can provide more than $11 billion without offsetting budget cuts.

Our Top Local Story:  A Jacksonville cop is arrested on DUI charges following last week's crash in St. Johns County.  Michael Rolison has been on desk duty since last Wednesday's crash.

Another officer in trouble with the law made his first court appearance Thursday.  Richard Cannon is accused of multiple counts of sex acts with a minor.  He has since resigned from the sheriff's office.

Timely information about traffic delays and crime in your neighborhood, gone.  Jacksonville police have pulled the scanners that we had leased for years, despite our attempts to buy them outright.

Breaking News from the southside, where there's been another shooting.  Cops tell us two people checked into the emergency room at Memorial Hospital with gunshot wounds.  We don't know where the shooting happened or what the motive is.

A second man is arrested in connection with the quadruple shooting in New Town earlier this week. 25-year-old Richard Dixon is charged with possession of a  weapon or ammunition by a convicted felon.  Three people were killed in the shooting.

The prosecutor in the Cristian Fernandez murder case says there's been talk of a plea deal, but the two sides remain far apart.  The 12-year-old charged with first-degree murder in the death of his two-year-old half-brother made another court appearance yesterday.  Lawyers for both sides are awaiting the results of an additional psychological evaluation.

The family of Christopher Barrios say Peggy Edenfield is getting what she deserves.  A judge in Georgia sentenced Edenfield to 60 years behind bars, after she pleaded guilty to charges including false imprisonment, child molestation, and child cruelty.  Barrios was neighbors with the Edenfield's and his body was found in a garbage bag in 2007.

New information following the discovery of a cellphone video that shows cats being shot.  Jacksonville police have arrested two teenagers, charging them with animal cruelty.  Mason Lanier is also charged with criminal conspiracy and possession of marijuana.

"Bubba" the lottery winner in St. Johns County has finally come forward.  The Florida Lottery Commission says Jerry Danforth and his wife chose the lump sum payment of 13 million dollars.  Danforth and his wife say they are trustees of the "Bubba Living Trust".

Ahead of the 10th anniversary of 9/11, a homeland security hotline has been set up in Florida.  It's called "If You See Something, Say Something".  The ACLU is crying foul, saying the program encourages people to spy on their neighbors, and could increase suspicion and mistrust.

The metal detector that you have to walk through at every airport in America is headed to the Smithsonian.  The TSA donated the metal detector, a training figure used by air marshals and a shift from the first official screener uniform as part of a special exhibit for the 9/11 anniversary.  Included will be airplane fragments, a door from a crushed fire truck and a flight attendant's handbook from Flight 93.

As new unemployment numbers are issued this morning the latest forecast from the White House is for the jobless rate to stay around 9% the rest of this year, above 8% next year, and not getting below 6% for another five years.

The President's jobs speech to a joint session of Congress will happen next Thursday at 7pm.  WOKV will carry it live.  The White House wants to make sure the speech is over before the opening kickoff of the NFL season.

The FHA is reportedly preparing to sue a dozen big banks for misrepresenting the quality of mortgages they packaged during the housing bubble. The New York Times reports Bank of America and Chase are among the banks being targeted.

You Decide 2012:  Another poll shows Rick Perry as the new clear front runner in the race for the Republican presidential nomination. A new Fox News poll shows Perry with an eight-point lead over former front-runner Mitt Romney.  That same poll, however, shows more voters are likely to view Perry as "too extreme" than Romney.
