9/7: $300 billion in Obama's jobs plan

Previous Posts

Cooler and less humid today.  Temps are in the mid-80's and sunny.  Temps tonight will be near the record low of 62.

Hurricane Katia is passing by Jacksonville, several hundred miles east.  We'll see some rough surf at the beaches but that's all.  Behind Katia is Tropical Depression #14, soon to become Maria.  It's following a track similar to Irene, so we'll have to watch it very closely this week.

Today's interview lineup:

At 6:53 hear Jamie Dupree explain why the early details of the President's jobs plan are not all that new.

At 7:50 I spoke with Jaguars owner Wayne Weaver about the decision to release David Garrard, and the push to lift the blackout for Sunday's home opener.

At 8:23 hear Jamie Dupree explain how the Republicans running for President will use the White House jobs plan to their advantage.

At 8:41 I spoke with Fox News White House Reporter Mike Majchrowitz about the cost of the President's jobs plan.

Our Top National Story:  Extending tax cuts and some new spending, those are a few of the early leaks of the President's jobs speech he'll deliver tomorrow before Congress.  Obama is expected to propose 300 billion in tax cuts and spending programs.  Included are a one-year extension of a payroll tax cut for workers and an extension of expiring jobless benefits.

Swimming in billions of red ink, the Postmaster General is telling Congress it's in trouble.  But our Washington Bureau Chief Jamie Dupree says Congress seems short on answers to the problem.

The latest in You Decide 2012:  The Republicans hoping to unseat President Obama begin a series of debates tonight at the Reagan Presidential Library.  It's the first debate featuring Rick Perry, who continues to lead Mitt Romney and Michele Bachmann in the polls.

Our Top Local Story:  The cost burden will not fall on you--that promise by Mayor Alvin Brown at a meeting with the Duval Delegation on his list of priorities for Jacksonville.  Brown says he wants new projects and initiatives that will grow jobs in Jacksonville.

Governor Rick Scott is agreeing with a presidential candidate about drilling for oil in our own backyard. During her recent tour through Florida, Republican Michele Bachmann said it would be worth exploring oil resources in the Florida Everglades.  Scott says he agrees, but only if it's cautious expansion.

Police gear, including two guns and a Taser, is stolen from an undercover officer's truck from outside his Arlington home.  According to reports, someone smashed out a window on the truck and made off with the items.  Pepper spray, handcuffs and radio equipment were also stolen.

The mother of a two-year-old boy killed allegedly by his 12-year-old half-brother may be freed so that she can attend his funeral.  The Times-Union reports a lawyer for Biannela Susana asked a judge to let her out of jail so that she could attend his funeral.  Neither the judge nor the prosecution opposed the motion. Susana is in jail on one-million dollars bail.

Jacksonville gathered at the landing Tuesday night to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice on a September morning ten years ago.

The Jaguars are putting their faith in Luke McCown.  A few days before the start of the season the Jaguars released starting QB David Garrard.

Two more cases of West Nile Virus in Duval County.  Two men are recovering from the symptoms of the illness.

Yahoo! has fired its CEO, Carol Bartz, after more than two and half half years of financial issues.  Yahoo's CFO, Tim Morse, will fill the CEO position temporarily.
