Another fantastic day! Temps are in the mid-80's with low humidity and partly sunny skies. The weekend looks pretty typical for September with afternoon thunderstorm chances Saturday and game-day Sunday.
Today's interview lineup:
At 6:10 hear Kevin Rincon as he followed Governor Scott's "Let's Get to Work " day at NAS Jax.
At 6:53 hear Jamie Dupree's analysis on Rick Perry's first debate test.
At 7:19 hear Neal Boortz explain why the GOP Presidential race is down to Perry and Romney.
At 7:53 hear Fox's Todd Starnes reset the big winners and losers from the GOP debate, including the race for the best hair.
At 8:23 hear Jamie Dupree's report on the expected costs of the President's jobs plan that he'll outline tonight.
At 8:53 hear Heather Zehr's latest outlook at the tropics, and whether Maria will impact Jacksonville next week.
Our Top National Story: Off with the gloves...Rick Perry and Mitt Romney traded several barbs in their first debate. Perry said Americans are looking for a presidential candidate who can get Americans working again. He touted his record in Texas while criticizing Romney's tenure leading Massachusetts. Romney says that as governor of Massachusetts, he oversaw more jobs created than President Obama has overseen nationwide.
A new pricetag of $400 billion in the President's jobs plan that he's going to outline in a speech before Congress tonight. We'll carry it live on WOKV at 7pm. Republicans are quick to question how the President plan to pay for it, while some Democrats are calling on bigger stimulus for construction projects.
That "super committee" that was set up to tackle the debt crisis gathers for the first time today. The committee is supposed to find one and a half trillion dollars in savings over the next decade. If Congress rejects the committee's deficit plan, then across the board budget cuts would happen.
Our Top Local Story: The jobs theme plays out in Jacksonville, this morning as Governor Rick Scott holds a "Let's Get to Work" event at NAS Jax this morning. Scott says he's planning to listen to the President's jobs speech, calling the need to create more jobs one of the most critical issues facing America.
Ahead of the tenth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, the Pentagon raises the security level at military bases -- including Mayport and NAS Jax. The move is not in response to any information about a planned attack -- instead, it's because al-Qaeda normally focuses on anniversary dates.
A mistaken attack on a fishing vessel results in the commanding officer being relieved of his duties. The Navy says Commander Mark Olson failed to follow safety procedures following a training exercise off the coast of North Carolina. The shots landed close to the fishing vessel, but the vessel and its crew were unharmed.
Fewer cops and more roadway projects in Jacksonville. That seems to be in the cards after a council panel urges the changes. Sheriff Rutherford has been asking the panel to reconsider but so far the answer has been no, saying he needs to at least 52 officers even if the Police Union agrees to a 2% cut.
Two football players from Orange Park High School are behind bars on sexual battery charges. Kiari Hill and Sherrod Lawson, both 17, were arrested yesterday. Police say one victim was sexually assaulted by both teens, and then another separate incident involving only Kiari Hill.
The Jaguars will ask for another day to sell more than 6,000 tickets for Sunday's home opener, assuring it'll be on TV. Owner Wayne Weaver told Jacksonville's Morning News yesterday they need more time.
The tropics are firing up. Tropical Storm Nate is in the Gulf and appears to be a greater threat to Texas and Mexico.
Tropical Storm Maria is tracking toward the Caribbean before it moves north. It could have an impact on Florida next week.
The remnants of Tropical Storm Lee have flooded roads, swelled waterways and put emergency responders in the East back on alert.
And Hurricane Katia is well off the east coast of the U.S., moving farther east into the Atlantic.
