Answers coming in Trayvon shooting

Previous Posts

The smoky smell is back this morning but it may not be around all day.  Heather Zehr says winds will shift out of northwest, sending smoke from the Baker/Columbia County fire just south of the fire line.  We don't have rain in the five day forecast.  It's going to be sunny with temps in the 70's.

Welcome home to the 25 members of the Florida Air National Guard!  They were greeted by family and friend at JIA yesterday after months in Afghanistan.

Today's interview lineup:

At 6:23 hear Matt Augustine explain why Shad Khan and Mayor Brown are two of the most popular leaders in Jacksonville.

At 6:53 hear Jamie Dupree explain where Rick Santorum's supporters and delegates are likely to go now that he's out of the race.

At 8:23 hear Jamie Dupree explain why a government agency is pulling back its "incentive" program.

Our Top Local Story:  Some certainty to all of the speculation in the Trayvon Martin shooting.  We've been alerted by State Attorney Angela Corey of an important update in her investigation before the weekend.  She's planning a news conference, either in Jacksonville or Sanford.  Corey refused to use a grand jury to investigate the evidence, saying her team of prosecutors will decide if George Zimmerman will be charged.  Zimmerman's lawyers resigned yesterday, and Sean Hannity says he spoke with Zimmerman.   Sean didn't divulge the details of their conversation.

Our Top National Story:  Mitt Romney's path to the GOP nomination is even more clear now that Rick Santorum has left the race.  Santorum did not endorse Romney.  Newt Gingrich and Ron Paul say they're going to continue their campaigns.

Governor Rick Scott says it's obvious Mitt Romney will be the Republican party's nominee.  Scott says it's critical all Republicans focus on electing Romney so he can put policies in place to create jobs and get federal spending under control.

Campaign finance reports show the Republican Party of Florida raised nearly three million dollars since January. The state Democratic Party raised just over one million. The cash is important because all 160 seats in the Florida Legislature are up because of redistricting.
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida gave a total of $400,000 to the two parties.  Koch Industries donated $40,000 to Republicans.

A plot to attack Jacksonville and other major U.S. cities brings a guilty plea for two Georgia men.  73 year-old Frederick Thomas and 67 year-old Dan Roberts pleaded guilty to conspiracy charges, and face up to five years in prison. They were arrested in November after the feds caught them plotting to scatter ricin in Jacksonville and other cities.

There will  be a dramatic reduction in the number of places you have to vote this election season.  The Jacksonville City Council has approved a bill from the Duval Supervisor of Elections office to close 58 polling locations.  Elections Supervisor Jerry Holland says it'll save $266,000 and help combat a half-million dollar budget cut.  The state has already cut the number of early voting days down to eight to save money but Holland says the hours are being extended .

Three teens are arrested in connection with a pair of armed robberies of disabled men and a home invasion.  Two were arrested last month by St. Johns County detectives looking into ongoing criminal activity in the area.  The third was arrested a short time later.

This could be the last time in a long time that Charles Manson gets the chance to ask for parole. The convicted mass murderer says he doesn't plan to attend his 12th parole hearing today in California but the sister of actress Sharon Tate says she'll be there.

A big shakeup in the SEC.  Arkansas head football coach Bobby Petrino has been fired.  Athletic Director Jeff Long says Petrino failed to disclose an inappropriate relationship with a former volleyball player who was with him when he crashed his motorcycle last week. Petrino initially said he was alone at the time of the crash.
