Marquee pick

Previous Posts

Sunny, dry and hot this weekend.  Temps are in the upper 80's today and touching 90 both days of the weekend.  It turns a bit cooler to start the new week, and a small chance of rain.

Today's interview lineup:

At 6:53 hear Jamie Dupree explain why the student loan fight is only now an issue.

At 7:53 hear Tony Boselli explain why he thinks the Jaguars got the most talented player in the NFL draft.

At 8:23 hear Jamie Dupree explain the President's strategy to campaign in a red state today.

Our Top Local Story:  Filling a big need with a marquee player.  The Jaguars moved up two spots and drafted Oklahoma State wide receiver Justin Blackmon, a move celebrated by hundreds of fans at the draft party at the St. Johns Town Center.  We'll see Blackmon later today during Rush Limbaugh, holding his first Jacksonville news conference at 12:30.

FDLE lays blame at the hands of some FHP officials in that horrific highway pileup in Gainesville in January.  The investigation did not find criminal intent but it blames FHP for not adequately communicating critical information about the smoke and fog that blanketed I-75.  11 people were killed in a series of chain reaction crashes.

New details in the murder of a St. Augustine mother, and respected court worker.  Stephanie Gilliam was killed Tuesday morning in what was first believed to be a home invasion--but her husband was later arrested on a murder charge.  We received the preliminary autopsy results that show Gilliam died of stab wounds to the neck.  Police say the couple's children were home during the attack but did not see anything.  The children are now with family members.

George Zimmerman's lawyer says he'll disclose more than $200,000 raised by a website created for his legal defense.  We'll have cameras at today's hearing, where the judge is being asked to unseal documents from Zimmerman's court file.  Zimmerman was released from jail this week after paying 10 percent of $150,000 bail.

A delicate balance of first and second amendment rights.  The Tampa City Council is asking Governor Scott to issue an executive order temporarily preventing protesters from carrying guns at the Republican National Convention in August.  Charlotte officials have yet to publically voice any concern about protesters at the Democratic convention in North Carolina.

A ruling by a federal judge in Miami that Governor Scott's requirement to drug test all state employees is unconstitutional -- getting the thumbs-down from some state lawmakers. Senator John Thrasher says they're simply trying to run the state more like private business, many of which require drug testing as a condition of employment.

Two Jacksonville parents convicted in the drowning of their children are sentenced to one year in jail.  Mr. and Mrs. Ibeagwa had faced several years in prison but the judge decided against that in a somewhat surprising move.  Family members said they're already serving a lifetime sentence of grief and regret.

Mayor Brown's plans to create a new Downtown Investment Authority will soon be under scutiny by the Jacksonville City Council.  Members want to know more about the new nine member appointed panel and it's goals before signing off on it. Don Shea is Executive Director of the Jacksonville Civic Council and Mayor Brown's pointman on the project..  He says the total cost is still up in ther air.

Our Top National Story:  It will likely be a political show on the floor of the House today with a vote on student loan interest rates. Both parties are for the same thing - not letting those interest rates double; but how they pay for it - and how they get there is a reminder of our current political deadlock.

No credible threats ahead of next week's one year anniversary of Osama bin Laden's death.  U.S. counterterrorism officials say there are no specific threats, but there has been an increase in intelligence chatter in the past several months from al-Qaida's affiliate in Yemen.  A judge in Washington just rejected a lawsuit by a conservative group wanting access to photos of bin Laden following the raid.

Scary moments for passengers on a Delta flight headed to Detroit.  They were held on the plane in Chicago when a passenger was believed to have a contagious disease.  The CDC evaluated the passenger and determined the rash was not monkeypox.
