We're under a Flood Watch through this evening as we track another day of heavy rain. Widespread heavy showers and thunderstorms are expected to race across the area this afternoon and could dump another 2 to 4 inches of rain in spots. Because of the saturated ground we could see flash flooding in some areas.
The ninth depression of the season has just formed east of the Lesser Antilles. It's too early to forecast the potential impact to Florida. A tropical storm watch has been issued for Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.
As some parts of Florida still continue recovery from Tropical Storm Debby, Governor Rick Scott has issued an executive order extending the state of emergency for Baker, Clay, Duval and Nassau Counties. It'll extend it for another thirty days and continue the allocation of resources to those counties and others. The order says the state will also continue seeking help from federal agencies.
Today's interview lineup:
At 6:53 hear Jamie Dupree explain why today is so critical to Republican efforts to regain control of the Senate.
At 8:23 hear Jamie Dupree on the way the President pulled news media attention away from the Romney campaign.
Breaking news out of Afghanistan this morning. The Joint Chiefs of Staff was not injured in an attack on his plane at a military base in Afghanistan. Militants fired rockets into the base, damaging the plane of the Joint Chiefs while he was on a visit. Army General Martin Dempsey is in Afghanistan to discuss the state of the war after a string of disturbing killings of U.S. military trainers by their Afghan partners.
Our Top National Story: Representative Todd Akin vows to fight on in his embattled Senate campaign, but a significant deadline looms today that is bound to intensify pressure on the Missouri congressman to abandon the race. Aiken came under fire for his comments that women's bodies can prevent pregnancies in cases of "legitimate rape.'' He spent Monday trying to salvage his once-promising challenge of incumbent Democrat Claire McCaskill. The deadline for Akin to withdraw is 5 p.m. today. If he does not leave the race, a court order would be needed to remove a name from the ballot.
President Obama is back on the campaign trail today for a two-day visit to Ohio and Nevada. Obama plans to start picking apart other sections of Paul Ryan's budget proposals as he looks to paint the GOP ticket as too extreme for the nation.
Mitt Romney is raising campaign cash ahead of next week's GOP convention in Tampa.
The Jaguars will play in London next year. It'll be official at a news conference this afternoon with Jags owner Shad Khan and NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell. It will cost the Jaguars a home game in October, but also will reduce the price of a season ticket by a reported 10 percent.
A big step toward putting red light cameras at Jacksonville intersections. Two Jacksonville City Council committees voted to allow police to issue tickets based on pictures taken by the red light cameras. The city is expecting to bring in at least $1.5 million from the cameras. But they will not go up until the full city council approves of the plan. That could come as early as next week.
$100. That's how much police say a brother and his sister stole before being caught by police for faking a hostage situation during two armed robberies. A 38-year-old man and his 36-year-old sister faked a hostage situation to rob two convenience stores. The two have made their first court appearance and are being held in jail without bail.
Jacksonville police are asking for help in finding whoever murdered a 23 year-old man. The body of George Magee was found Saturday in an abandoned car near Panama Park. Police tell us Magee's last known address was on Goldilocks Lane on the westside. They're not saying how he died.
