More tropical downpours

We'll have a gusty wind today and partly sunny conditions at times. Because of Isaac we will also have a sporadic tropical downpour. Temps are in the upper 80's again. The rest of the week features a chance of afternoon storms as we get back to a normal weather pattern.

Today's interview lineup:

At 5:53 hear reporter Richard Sansgster in Mobile, Alabama on the preparations for flooding rain.

At 6:23 hear Matt Augustine on the two rising starts in the GOP that will speak to Florida delegates this morning.

At 6:53 hear Jamie Dupree on the message Senate candidate Connie Mack is hoping to send at the RNC.

At 7:53 hear Matt Augustine with what local Republican delegates are expecting from Marco Rubio at the RNC..

At 8:53 hear AP correspondent Tony Winton describe the two biggest worries for people living in New Orleans ahead of Isaac.

Our Top National Story: Isaac is on the verge of becoming a hurricane as it bears down on the northern Gulf Coast. Isaac is expected to make landfall over southeastern Louisiana, possibly the New Orleans area, either late today or early Wednesday.

The threat of weather-related problems delayed the start of the Republican National Convention in Tampa. So the festivities get underway today. Ann Romney and New Jersey Governor Chris Christie are the featured speakers tonight.

Before that, we'll hear from Senator Marco Rubio, Attorney General Pam Bondi and Florida GOP Chairman Lenny Curry at the Florida Delegate breakfast.

We're following a developing story out of the southside, where a van drove right into a house. Two people have been taken to the hospital, that includes the driver and a person that was in the house. Police telling us the intersection of Barnes and Kennerly will be closed until further notice.

Into the water.   The Coast Guard is searching for a man who jumped off the Jacksonville-based Carnival Fascination cruise ship off the coast of Ponce De Leon, Florida.  A security guard witnessed the man jump from the 10th deck into the water, about an 87 foot jump.  The cruise ship left Jacksonville Monday in route to Key West.

Our Top Local Story: A would-be robber is killed by a customer at the Dollar General Store on Dunn Avenue. The customer was legally carrying a gun and shot one of the robbers dead. The other took off. The citizen was questioned and we're told no charges are pending against him.

Who pays for special events in Jacksonville. For the second straight year the issue is being debated in budget hearings. The Mayor's budget proposal does not include money for the Light Parade and the New Year's fireworks. As the Times Union reports, those traditional events may have to be funded through private donations. The budget does pay for the Veterans Parade, 4th of July fireworks, Jazz Festival and World of Nations event.
