Cloudy today and a bit cooler with temps in the mid-70's. We'll have a chance of a shower of thunderstorm today. We'll have a better chance of rain Wednesday and it turns much cooler with temps only in the low 60's.
Wicked storms hit just south of us Monday afternoon. An apparent tornado ripped through a mobile home community in Volusia County, damaging dozens of homes. Two people had minor injuries. See amateur video of the tornado here.
Today's interview lineup:
At 6:53 hear Jamie Dupree explain why a status update on the fiscal cliff depends on who you read and trust.
At 7:23 hear reporter Monica Rix in Volusia County on the extent of damage from an apparent tornado.
At 8:23 hear Jamie Dupree explain why the right to work debate in Michigan could have a bigger impact than what we saw in Wisconsin.
At 8:40 hear Fox's Jennifer Keiper in Lansing, Michigan ahead of this week's debate and final vote on right to work.
Our Top National Story: More rhetoric but no tangible signs of progress in the fiscal cliff negotiations. President Obama says he will not compromise on the principle of asking the rich to pay more. Senator Lindsey Graham says the President needs to "man up" and use the election mandate to compromise instead of playing small ball. With 20 days left we do not find a lot of new developments. News reports are all over the place on the status of the negotiations. See Jamie Dupree's analysis here.
The Federal Reserve meets this week and could try to soften the blow from the tax increases and spending cuts of the fiscal cliff if Congress can't reach a budget deal. The Fed is expected to announce a new bond-buying plan to support the U.S. economy by further reducing long-term interest rates and encouraging borrowing by companies and individuals. But Chairman Ben Bernanke warned last month that the Fed's actions wouldn't rescue the economy in a fiscal cliff scenario.
What a sight at the Shands Bridge. Cops find a car submerged in the St. Johns River last night. In reading the FHP report, we're seeing that a concrete block was placed on the gas pedal and the Monte Carlo rolled over a barrier and into the water. The vehicle's owners were found at their home and weren't with the car when it went into the water.
We know what caused those huge delays on the West Beltway in Mandarin yesterday. The driver of an SUV lost control at San Jose and rolled. Two passengers were thrown from the SUV. As traffic was stopping, the driver of an semi hauling ice cream overturned, blocking most of the lanes. The driver of the semi was not hurt.
For the past 25 years traffic court has been held in a strip mall on Beach Boulevard. But that will change after Christmas. Traffic court is moving to the new Duval County Courthouse downtown. The rented space on Beach Blvd. costs the city about $644,000 a year.
A change at the top brings another shakeup at the JEA. We've learned five executives just left the city-owned utility. JEA says it's a step toward improving efficiency and customer satisfaction. New CEO Paul McElroy says the changes were made now to avoid a long transition period.
George Zimmerman will be in court this morning for the first time since October as his defense team argues eight different motions on his behalf. He's the neighborhood watch captain charged with killing Sanford teen Trayvon Martin in February. Among the motions is a request for an interview conducted with Martin's girlfriend. She was on the phone with him moments before the altercation that would ultimately cost him his life.
Jaguars coach Mike Mularkey is expected to return to work today after he was hospitalized yesterday. Mularkey began feeling sick while working in his office Monday and went to see a trainer about it. He was then taken to Baptist Medical Center where he was admitted and had some tests done.
The former Florida cop, dubbed "Death Row Romeo", is scheduled to die today. Manuel Pardo was convicted of murdering nine people 26 years ago. Federal Judge Timothy Corrigan denied Pardo's request for a stay yesterday. Officials say most of Pardo's victims were involved with drugs. Pardo was dubbed the Death Row Romeo after he corresponded with dozens of women and persuaded many to send him money.
