Heavy rain at times today. We've been telling you for days about the wet and cool changes in our forecast. Today's high will be nearly 20 degrees cooler than yesterday, when we hit 79. Heather Zehr doesn't expect severe storms today.

Our Top National Story: Wearing camouflage and armed wtih a gun, a man kills two innocent shoppers before killing himself at a mall in Portland, Oregon. The gunman has not been identified, but police say they know who he is. They are not saying what motivated the latest active shooting in a crowded place.

President Obama continues to push for his plans to avert a fiscal cliff. He'll hold a conference call today with a bipartisan group of mayors and community leaders to talk about preventing an income tax increase on middle-class families while finding ways to reduce the deficit. So far, Obama and Republicans have not been able to work out a budget compromise.

Michigan is about to become the 24th right to work state. Governor Rick Snyder has signed the bills that prohibit requiring non-union workers to pay fees to unions for negotiating contracts and other services. Opponents say it will depress wages and weaken the union movement.

The White House is calling today's launch of a long-range rocket by North Korea a highly provocative act that threatens regional security. North Korea successfully fired the rocket that the U.S., South Korea and Japan see as a test of technology needed to mount a nuclear warhead on a missile.

Defense Secretary Leon Panetta has arrived in Afghanistan on an unannounced visit to consult with top commanders and President Hamid Karzai. Today's visit comes at a difficult juncture in the Western coalition's efforts to shift more security responsibilities to Afghan forces so the combat mission can end in 2014.

The United States is following France and the United Kingdom in recognizing the new Syrian opposition coalition as the "sole legitimate representative'' of the Syrian people. The recognition comes as the fourth conference for the "Friends of the Syrian People'' gets ready to open today in Morocco.

Las Vegas, land of the quickie wedding, is in the midst of a love recession and chapels see a moneymaking opportunity Dec. 12, 2012. Thousands of couples are expected to get their wedding license stamped with a once-in-a-century 12-12-12.

An update to breaking news you first heard yesterday on WOKV. We're expecting to hear from the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office later this morning about a police-involved shooting in East Arlington yesterday that left one person dead and a woman in custody

A local beer thief gets 30 years in prison for breaking into a house and stealing a few brews. 23-year-old Cory Bouley was convicted of a home burglary charge Bouley broke into a home on Dandy Avenue in Regency in May, ransacked the place, and drank a six pack of beer. The state attorney's office says Bouley is a habitual felony offender and has previous convictions for dealing in stolen property and child abuse.

A man who spent three weeks harassing his neighbor, making sexual comments and threatening her when she refused his advances is sentenced to five years in prison for aggravated stalking. 52-year-old Charles Riggs is a 7-time convicted felon with previous convictions for lewd acts with a victim under 16 and video voyeurism.
