Judging the Santorum sweep

Watch out for patchy spots of fog this morning but we'll turn partly sunny and warm, into the mid-70's.  Dry and mild the rest of this week before cooler air on Sunday.

Today's interview lineup:

At 6:53 hear Jamie Dupree explain how Rick Santorum's three wins could bring money and momentum.

At 8:23 hear Jamie Dupree describe how Mitt Romney's campaign is likely to handle Rick Santorum's rise.

Our Top National Story:  A trifecta for Rick Santorum.  He won caucuses in Minnesota and Colorado and Missouri's nonbinding primary, saying conservatism is alive and well.  Mitt Romney still leads the pack in the number of delegates won.  Romney is shrugging off his poor showing, saying he expects to become the Republican nominee.

The White House says "the rules are what they are," so President Obama is encouraging donations to so-called super PACs.  In the past, he's called the groups a "threat to democracy" because they allow unlimited donations from corporations, labor unions and wealthy individuals.

California's voter-approved ban on same-sex marriage could eventually head to the U.S. Supreme Court.  A federal appeals court just ruled the ban unconstitutional, saying it served no purpose other than to deny gay couples marriage.  Ultimately a Supreme Court decision could impact Florida.

Our Top Local Story:  The debate over a teenage murder suspect reaches a new level this morning with some opinionated people staging a protest at the courthouse.  13 year-old Cristian Fernandez is charged as an adult with murder for the death of his 2 year-old half brother.  A handful of people are gathering outside the courthouse, pushing for the teen to be released from juvenile detention and put into rehab.

Get ready to poney up more for college tuition.  The Florida Senate is recommending a three percent hike in college tuition this fall.  While it doesn't raise tuition for university students, universities have the power to raise tuition up to 15 percent a year.

Florida's joining a nationwide settlement over foreclosure abuses.  We'll be joining more than 40 other states in approving a deal to provide relief for people who lost their homes, or can't afford their mortgages.  The settlement would give some money to homeowners who lost their homes to foreclosure in recent years.

A political reaction to that horrific chain reaction crash on I-75 that killed eleven people.  Gainesville Republican Keith Perry wants to put electronic highway signs on I-75 near U-S 441.  He's also pushing for better meteorology equipment in the area.

The family of a teen killed in a drive-by shooting earlier this week is looking for answers. 18-year-old Lavonia Jackson was shot and killed while he was riding his bike to night school.  His family is pleading for anyone to come forward and talk to police.

Will he be back again?  City Councilman Don Redman set up shop next to the Occupy Jacksonville emcampent outside city hall, saying he's tired of seeing the pile of junk.

A new way to get a shot of caffeine, but it has some concern.  AeroShot is a lipstick-sized tube that contains caffeine powder that's inhaled.  It went on the market last month in Massachusetts and New York. Senator Chuck Schumer wants the FDA to review AeroShot, fearing it'll be used as a club drug.

Politics, sex and religion clash on the Senate floor. The White House recently ruled that many church-affiliated organizations could be required to offer contraception coverage to their employees.  Republican Senator Roy Blunt says that oversteps separation of church and state. The White House says it'll clarify the new rules in coming days but won't back down from them.
