A frigid start but there is some good news. After near-record cold this morning we'll gradually get warmer with temps in the mid-50's. It's still cold tonight but we're back into the 60's by tomorrow and 70's by Saturday.
Today's interview lineup:
At 6:53 hear Jamie Dupree from De Moines on the razor thin Iowa Caucus results and what it says about the future for people like Perry and Bachmann.
At 8:23 hear Jamie Dupree explain how the Iowa results could have Michele Bachmann out.
At 8:40 our attention turns to New Hampshire with Fox's Marga Bessette in Manchester.
Our Top National Story is the thrilling Iowa finish. Eight votes is all that separated Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum. Even though Romney is the winner Santorum has the clear momentum heading to New Hampshire. Ron Paul sounded upbeat and confident about his future after his third place finish. Newt Gingrich is ready to take the gloves off against Romney and Paul. Rick Perry is headed back to Texas to reassess his campaign. Michele Bachmann says she's not going to let the pundits decide the race but she clearly is falling fast.
Romney is the heavy favorite in next Tuesday's New Hampshire primary. The South Carolina primary on January 21st figures to be a tougher test. It's the first contest in the South and in a state that is part of the Republican political base.
On the heels of his razor-thin victory in Iowa, Mitt Romney will pick up the endorsement of the man who beat him out for the Republican nomination four years ago. John McCain is expected to announce today that he's endorsing Romney, who now heads to New Hampshire for that state's January 10th primary.
President Obama heads to Ohio later today to push his economic message. Last night, the president addressed Iowa Democrats by teleconference while the GOP caucus was still underway. He described Republicans as embracing a theory that says we're going to cut taxes for the wealthiest among us and roll back regulations on things like clean air and health care reform.
Breaking news in St. Augustine where a possible meth leb starts a fire at the Ramada Inn on San Marco Avenue. People staying at the hotel were forced to stand in the cold for hours as firefighters worked to keep the fire contained to one room. One man who was suspected to be inside the hotel room is being questioned by St. Augustine police.
A Mandarin man burned over 80-percent of his body is in serious condition at Shands Gainesville. It's a story we first brought you yesterday on Jacksonville's Morning News. Police say 34-year-old Anthony Bowden was burned inside a possible meth lab on Ricky Road.
Homicides were down again in 2011. There were a total of 86 homicides in Jacksonville last year, down from 99 in 2010. Sheriff John Rutherford says violent crime in Jacksonville is now at its lowest level in 40 years.
Hosting an open house party for underage kids a few years back, and finally Diane Santarelli is headed to jail. The St. Johns County woman hosted a party at which a teenager who was drunk later got into a deadly crash. Santarelli is serving nearly one year in jail.
Despite the pleas of former Jaxport chair Tony Nelson and his attorney for a probation sentence, the government wants to see Nelson spend 10 to 12 years in prison. The Times-Union reports the U.S. district judge overseeing the case has pushed Nelson's sentencing back to February to give himself more time to review the case. Nelson faces multiple charges including bribery, lying to law enforcement, and money laundering.
A low key transition of power today, as Shad Khan officially takes ownership of the Jacksonville Jaguars. He's not expected to make any public comments, but we are working to have him in studio next week on Jacksonville's Morning News.
A man and his mother are rushed to the hosptial and part of a southern Orange Park neighborhood is evacuated following a shooting. A family argument turned violent and Virginia Thunberg is charged with two counts of attempted murder. The victims are in stable condition at the hospital.
