Forecasters are promising that temperatures will get a little cooler this week in the eastern half of the U.S.  Thunderstorms will provide a break in the heat to cities such as Philadelphia, Washington and St. Louis, where temperatures have climbed past 100 degrees over the past several days.

President Obama is pushing to extend tax cuts for the middle class, starting with an address from the White House today.
A senior administration official says Obama will call for a one-year extension of tax cuts for people making less than $250,000 a year.  House Republicans are expected to push this month for a measure to extend all of the Bush-era tax cuts due to expire at the end of the year, including reductions on wealthier income earners.
