Good morning from The Players at TPC Sawgrass on Military Appreciation Day. We will be live today, tomorrow and Friday.
Our best chance of widespread rain is today. Accuweather's Heather Zehr is tracking a front that'll come in from the west this afternoon, and could bring heavy rain and isolated storms during the afternoon and evening. Rain could linger in the early hours Thursday but we'll turn sunny and very nice for the start of The Players. Temps Thursday through Mother's Day will be in the low 80's. We'll be watching a slight chance of rain on Sunday.
Breaking news in Arlington, where Matt Augustine is on the scene of a police involved shooting at Rogero Road and Arlington Road. An officer fired seven shots at a suspect in a vehicle during a traffic stop, killing the driver. We expect to learn more details about the shooting this afternoon.
Today's interview lineup:
At 5:53 hear wounded warrior Michael McCombs talk about PTSD and his gift of a membership at TPC Boston, which is being presented at The Players.
At 6:53 hear Jamie Dupree explain how a federal inmate beat President Obama in 10 counties in West Virginia.
At 7:23 hear Matt Rapp, executive director of The Players, on the goal of $100 million for education.
At 8:23 hear Jamie Dupree explain how Senator Richard Luger's loss in Indiana could impact the race for the White House.
At 8:53 hear wounded warrior Phil Lamonica explain how PTSD affects his life every day, and his sweet job as a marshal on the famed 17th hole.
750 thousand dollars -- the Jacksonville City Council voted and that's how much the city now has to pay for new courthouse furniture. Councilwoman Denise Lee says this is politics at its worst, saying it's almost like who has the biggest balls. The vote was 18-1, with Richard Clark the lone dissenting voice. It's enough to override a veto by the Mayor.
A playground on Jacksonville's Westside is unusable after it was set on fire, turning the plastic into a melted mess. Parents tell our news partner Channel Four the kids are now paying the price. Police say it appears the fire at Woodstock Park on West Beaver Street was deliberately set.
Lawyers for 13-year-old Cristian Fernandez want the judge to re-depose one of the detectives involved in the case. They filed a motion in court saying the detective wasn't prepared for the original deposition and the public defender didn't ask the right questions. His new lawyers want to know who had contact with the boy before he was brought in for questioning.
As many as 300 new jobs are coming to Jacksonville. GE Working Capital Solutions is opening an office at Flagler Center off Old St. Augustine Road and I-95. The company will use the Jacksonville office as an accounts receivables management center.
The Clay County Commission tells us there was no motion made to change the time of alcohol sales on Sunday. It was voted to be on the November ballot for the citizens to decide. Some small businesses petitioned to allow alcohol to be sold earlier on Sundays because they say it's hurting business.
Mitt Romney is coming to town next week. On the guest list for next Thursday's fundraiser will be State Senator John Thrasher, along with some former mayors of Jacksonville, two local sheriffs, and more of the city's most influential people. It'll be held at Epping Forest.
North Carolina voters approve a constitutional amendment that would effectively ban same-sex marriage. The amendment defines marriage solely as a union between a man and a woman. President Obama's campaign says he's disappointed by the outcome.
Our Top National Story: Out with a bang--longtime Indiana Senator Richard Luger was booted out by state treasurer Richard Murdock. Lugar is the first Senator to be defeated in 2012.
Mitt Romney won all three states Tuesday, so did President Obama. But in West Virginia, a federal inmate held Obama under 60%. The guy won 10 counties along the way.
