Here we go

Previous Posts

We'll have a wet election day. Periods of rain and thunderstorms today with temps in the upper 60's. We turn chilly tonight and cool for the rest of the week. Temps in the mid-60's Wednesday and Thursday. By the weekend we're back into the 70's.

Today's interview lineup:

At 6:23 hear Matt Augustine live in Mandarin, where a few early voters were preparing to cast their ballot.

At 6:53 hear Jamie Dupree describe how the path to victory for Mitt Romney will be a challenge without Florida.

At 7:23 hear Duval County Supervisor of Elections Jerry Holland explain the heaviest times expected at the polls.

At 8:23 hear Jamie Dupree outline the chances we'll continue to see a divided Congress after tonight.

Our Top National Story: Election Day in America. President Obama ended his campaign with a nighttime rally in Iowa, telling the crowd "This is where our movement for change began.'' Obama was joined by first lady Michelle Obama and rocker Bruce Springsteen.

Mitt Romney isn't done campaigning. Today he'll be in Ohio and Pennsylvania, where he and Republicans are making a big, late push. In New Hampshire Monday, Romney told supporters "We thank you and we ask you to stay in it all the way to the victory tomorrow night.''

The New Hampshire villages of Dixville Notch and Hart's Location have maintained their tradition of heading to the polls at midnight on Election Day. In Dixville Notch, the vote is 5 votes apiece for Obama and Romney. In Hart's Location, it took voters 5 minutes and 42 seconds to cast 23 votes for Obama, 9 for Romney and 1 vote for Libertarian Gary Johnson.

Among the races we'll be following tonight: State Senate District Four, as Republican Aaron Bean challenges Democrat Nancy Soderberg. Two seats on the Duval County School Board are up for grabs. Four people are running for Duval County Clerk of the Court. Two women are squaring off for a seat on the Circuit Court. And in Clay County, voters decide whether to allow the Sunday sale of alcohol at 7am. We'll post results throughout the night at WOKV.COM.

Voting rights advocates say robocalls in Virginia, North Carolina and Florida are incorrectly telling voters they can cast ballots over the phone. The fake phone calls, some of which involve live callers, are being made primarily to African-American voters.

Lady Gaga and Brad Pitt have weighed in on one side, evangelist icon Billy Graham on the other as the four-state showdown over same-sex marriage reaches its Election Day conclusion. Same-sex marriage has been rejected in all 32 states that have held popular votes on the issue. Gay-rights advocates believe they have a chance to break that streak as Maine, Maryland and Washington state vote today on whether to legalize same-sex marriage. Minnesota votes on whether to place a ban on gay marriage in its constitution.

People in New York and New Jersey are still facing multiple challenges in the effort to recover from Superstorm Sandy. Most pressing is the need to find housing and get power turned back on for people hardest hit by the storm. In counties declared emergency zones, voters can fill out an affidavit ballot at any polling place they can reach.

It's a way to show their appreciation for hard work. The Duval County School Board just approved more than one million dollars in bonuses for school administrators and non-union employees. Superintendent Ed Pratt-Dannals tells the Times Union the employees have not received raises in three years.

The young man who shot his girlfriend to death before killing himself is identified as 19-year-old Jamel Bowman. Police say he killed 20-year-old Lauren Allen inside her Southside home and later killed himself. The bodies were found by Lauren's mother.

Jacksonville police need your help finding a murder suspect. They say 27-year-old James Hiawatha Russell is wanted for Sunday's murder of Philippe Foster which happened at the intersection of A Phillip Randolph and Jessie St. He's described as six feet tall, 175 pounds and should be considered armed and dangerous.
