The $1.2 million retirement

Fog this morning will eventually lift and we'll be partly sunny.  Afternoon temps are in the low 80's after a chilly morning.  It looks dry and pleasant the rest of this week with temps normal for this time of the year.  Looks like our next chance of rain is Sunday.

Our Top Local Story:  The $1.2 million retirement.  Amid a financial aid audit that found a lax culture at Florida State College at Jacksonville and an independent review calling for more accountability, President Steve Wallace is retiring at the end of this year.  He'll stay on the payroll through mid-2014 in a role that has still not been defined.  See the full retirement plan approved by the FSCJ and what Wallace says about the whole situation.

Criminal charges filed against several people at a house party in Middleburg that ended in death for a 19 year-old.  Hollee Krueger was hit and killed by a car as she walked home from the party.  Her blood-alcohol level was .16 at the time.  Five people are being charged under new legislation that allows for prosecution against those accused of serving alcohol to minors.  They all face up to 60 days in jail and a fine of $500.

A surge in voter registration at the closing bell.  Duval County Supervisor of Elections Jerry Holland says the numbers increased by at least 13,000.  Democrats still hold the majority but they're down 9,000 since 2008.  St. Johns Supervisor Vicky Oakes says registration is at an all time high, with 20,000 more registered voters than 2008.  The Clay Election Supervisor says registered Republicans outnumber Democrats by at least 40,000.

We first told you yesterday about a crash that left several cars damaged at George Moore Chevrolet on Atlantic Boulevard in Arlington.  New this morning, the driver who caused the damage may be facing charges.  Florida Highway Patrol says William West II was heading west on Atlantic around 2:30 Tuesday morning when he lost control for unknown reasons.  His SUV flipped, landing on top of two vehicles parked at the dealership. Flying debris also caused damage to two other vehicles on the lot.  West was taken to Shands with minor injuries.

The man who crashed into the bedroom of a St. Augustine Beach couple as they slept, has died over the weekend. 34-year-old Grant Ness had been in critical condition at Shands since October first.  That's when he crashed through the bedroom of a home on Hydrangia Street and injured the couple living there.  Police say Ness wasn't wearing a seatbelt, and he may have been speeding under the influence of alcohol.

Florida records its first death from that nationwide meningitis outbreak.  The patient was a 70 year-old Marion County man.  The number of patients has risen to six, all in Marion County.  The strain of fungal meningitis has been found in a contaminated steroid.  The injections have since been recalled.

He's accused of killing his mom during an argument in the family's Orange Park yard.  23 year-old Teyi  Lawson is in jail on a murder charge with no bond.  We've learned the medical examiner ruled DeDe Etey  died of blunt force trauma to the head.

Our Top National Story:  You Decide 2012.  It's still all about Ohio.  The average of all polls in the Buckeye state show the race tightening.  Both Obama and Romney spent Tuesday rallying supporters in Ohio. The Real Clear Politics average of all polls in Ohio has a dead heat.  The latest Rasmussen poll in Ohio, taken the day after the first debate, has Obama up one.

A crucial test for Joe Biden and Paul Ryan as they prepare for their only Vice Presidential debate tomorrow night.  Topics are foreign and domestic policy, and the debate is held in Danville, Kentucky. You can hear the entire debate live on WOKV tomorrow night at 9.

Demanding answers.  A Republican-led House committee will hold a hearing today on diplomatic security in Libya, a month after the attack at the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi that killed the U.S. ambassador and three other Americans. Congressman Darrell Issa has accused the State Department of ignoring pleas from its diplomats in Libya to increase security in the months and weeks before the attack.
