Two week sprint to the finish

Previous Posts

Another mild afternoon with low humidity and temps near 80. Conditions change by Wednesday as humidity returns and it's a little bit warmer. We have a chance of a shower or thunderstorm Thursday. Friday and Saturday look great.

We're watching Tropical Storm Sandy south of Jamaica. It could end up a hurricane as it approaches Jamaica. It's not expected to threaten us, except for big waves at the beach.

Today's interview lineup:

At 6:23 hear Florida Republican Party Chairman Lenny Curry explain why he says Duval County cannot be taken for granted by the Romney team.

At 6:53 hear Jamie Dupree at Lynn University, where both sides are claming victory in what appeared to be a debate muddle.

At 8:10 hear Matt Augustine explain why many people were not impressed with either candidate's performance in the final debate.

At 8:23 hear Jamie Dupree describe where Obama and Romney will be spending the next several days.

Our Top National Story: President Obama sharply challenged Mitt Romney on foreign policy in their final campaign debate. Obama told Romney "every time you've offered an opinion you've been wrong.'' Romney responded that "Attacking me is not an agenda'' for dealing with a dangerous world. There was little or no agreement on Libya, Syria, Russia and other national security issues in a 90-minute encounter at Lynn University in Boca Raton. They traded jabs on national energy security, education, fostering small business expansion and boosting trade, particularly in Latin America.

At least ten Duval County voters have been mailed a letter saying they will be removed from the voter rolls if they don't prove citizenship within the next 15 days. But the letter is a lie. When City Council President Bill Bishop saw the letter there were a few red flags right away. Although the letter seems to be from Duval and lists all the right phone number it's postmarked from Washington. Supervisor of Elections Jerry Holland says he believes it may be voter intimidation.

On top of the tough loss this weekend, two star Jaguars players were injured. Running back Maurice Jones-Drew is out with a foot injury, and he'll be out for Sunday's game at Green Bay. Coach Mularkey doesn't have a further timeline than that. Quarterback Blaine Gabbert has an injury to his non-throwing shoulder and has a good chance of playing this week.

The big question is the price.  Apple is expected to unveil its smaller iPad today. Tech bloggers and analysts expect a device with a screen measuring a little less than 8 inches diagonally. This would be slightly larger than the 7 inch tablets on the market.

We'll see Bill Cosby in Jacksonville as part of a two-day education summit just announced by Mayor Brown. We're told the summit will gather leaders in Jacksonville to work on ways to enhance the quality of education for all students. It'll be held February 28th and March first of next year. Cosby will visit with students, teachers and administrators and will then give a public performance that evening. Mayor Brown says he has a goal of raising two million dollars to help fund education initiatives.

They may be responsible for as many as two dozen break-ins around the area. A St. Augustine couple is arrested following a chase through Flagler and St. Johns County. WIlliam Fulkerson is charged with fleeing and eluding a police officer and criminal mischief. It's not clear what charges Carmen Kilgore is facing.   Police say both are facing additional charges.

He oversaw the early days of the investigation of leadership at Florida State College at Jacksonville.  Board trustee and previous chairman, Jim McCollum, says he does not want to be reappointed. In a letter sent to the Governor, McCollum says he hopes to be replaced by the end of this year. McCollum has been on the board since 2007.
