Fire crews are working to completely put out an eight acre wildfire in Black Hammock Island, north of Mayport. The fire started last night and there are some homes in the area but, so far, no reports of damage or injuries.

Our Top National Story: Superstorm Sandy is now being blamed for at least 17 deaths in the U.S. One person who died was a crewmember a replica of the 18th-century sailing ship HMS Bounty that was built for the 1962 Marlon Brando movie "Mutiny on the Bounty.'' The ship went down off North Carolina during the storm. The captain is still missing.
Wall Street will be closed for a second day today because of the superstorm that's pummeling the East Coast. Hundreds of thousands of homes and businesses are without power in New York City, and utility officials say it could be a week before some of them get their electricity back. Some 6.2 million customers are without electricity across the East.
Fire officials in New York say some 15 homes are on fire in a neighborhood in Queens. About 170 firefighters are battling the blaze in the Breezy Point section, which was flooded by the superstorm.
Sending help to storm victims. A team from the Northeast Florida Chapter of the American Red Cross is leaving this morning in an Emergency Response Vehicle. Two volunteers will be heading to New Jersey to help people affected by the storm. They leave at 10 this morning.
Flights out of Jacksonville are cancelled to New York, Washington, Baltimore, Philadelphia and Newark, all through today. It's best to check with your airline about the status of flights after today.
Our Top Local Story: $48 million. That's how much taxpayer money Mayor Brown says can be saved on next year's budget if his new pension reform proposal is enacted. The first part of his plan asks workers at the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office to contribute more to their plan and work for a longer period of time. It does not count for current retirees or people who are eligible for full retirement now. Mayor Brown estimates his plan will save $1.5 billion over 30 years.
Fraternal Order of Police President Nelson Cuba tells WOKV News if the Mayor wants pension reform he should be negotiating with the police and fire pension board, NOT the union. Cuba calls the Mayor's plan a publicity stunt.
You Decide 2012: With seven days remaining, the pace of the race is interrupted by Sandy. Mitt Romney is expected to make an appearance in Dayton, Ohio, but the rally will instead be a fundraiser for victims of Hurricane Sandy. President Obama will be at the White House after scrapping a trip to Wisconsin.
VP nominee Paul Ryan tried to make the most of his Monday stop in Fernandina Beach. Ryan's was just the first of many campaign stops hitting Northeast Florida this week. Mitt Romney is scheduled to be at Veterans Memorial Arena Wednesday night. First Lady Michelle Obama is expected to be at the Prime Osborn Convention Center Thursday.
In the first three days of early voting, over 100,000 ballots have been cast in Duval County. That includes 59,000 cast at the early voting sites and 42,000 absentee ballots received. Statewide, nearly two-million ballots have already been cast.
Outgoing FSCJ President Steve Wallace cashes out his unused vacation days to the tune of $337,000. The Times Union reports the payout was requested days before the Board of Trustees approved his exit package. Wallace accumulated 2,052 hours of vacation time since he became president 15 years ago. Based on a 40-hour work week, that's nearly an entire year's worth of vacation days.
She says she did it because she wanted to know what it felt like. A 22-year-old woman says she stabbed the family dog seven times for the thrill of it. Police say Mariessa Caggiano stabbed the ten-year-old female Labrador Retriever once in the driveway and six more times in the neighbor's yard. The dog is not expected to survive.
