Delegates at the Democratic National Convention vote today to adopt their party platform. It echoes President Obama's call for higher taxes on wealthier Americans while backing same-sex marriage and abortion rights. It's in sharp contrast to the Republican platform that would ban abortion and gay marriage, repeal Obamacare and shift Medicare into a voucher-style program.
The chairman of the California Democratic Party has compared Republican tactics to the "big lie'' strategy most famously employed by Nazi propagandists. California Democratic chief John Burton says Republicans lie and don't care whether people know they lie and that, quote, "As long as you lie, Joseph Goebbels, the big lie, you keep repeating it.'' Goebbels was the chief of Nazi propaganda. Burton later apologized to anyone offended by his comparison.
Still without power--Tens of thousands of utility customers in Louisiana, Mississippi and Arkansas are living without the comforts of light and air conditioning, nearly a week after Hurricane Isaac pounded the Gulf Coast. The burger included 60 pounds of bacon, 50 pounds of lettuce, 50 pounds of sliced onions, 40 pounds of pickles and 40 pounds of cheese. It took about four hours to cook the patty. A crane was used to flip it.
