Angie's Subs holds "Angie's Caucus"

Some of you are had your voice heard on who your top pick is for a Republican Presidential candidate at Angie’s Subs Tuesday night as they held their first ever "Angie's Caucus" in Jacksonville Beach.

Think of it as an actual presidential caucus, but with great food and a little twist Jacksonville style.

While some stood on a soapbox, others cast their vote in an official straw ballot made specifically for the event.

“It’s not the actual one, but it’s that and some other issues they’ve got on the ballot. So from that standpoint, it’s a good time for really people to come out and support their candidate,” Holland tells WOKV.

Some of the items on the ballot included who you would pick for President, US Senator, and if the State of Florida should allow the expansion of casino gambling thoughout the state.

With 323 total ballots cast, with 138 votes, Newt Gingrich took the top title. Ron Paul came in second place with 85 votes, followed by Romney then Santorum. Also, many of you voted in favor of the gambling expansion rather than against it.

“You know we have our primary here in the State of Florida on Saturday. It’s a very, very important election in my opinion. And probably the most election of my lifetime so far,” says Angie’s Subs owner Ed Malin.

This isn't the first time Malin has held an event that is political based. He tells WOKV that he is fortunate enough to have a thriving business in Jacksonville Beach, and says he always has opened up his restaurant to candidates.

Holland praised Malin at the event, saying no taxpayer dollars were used for funding. Angie's Subs footed the bill for the whole event.
