The holiday season can be a great time to pick up a part-time job, but the Better Business Bureau says there are also scams out there to be worried about.
The Bureau says you should be careful if a job is too good to be true.
The BBB says it can be a red flag if a potential employer asks for payment up front. If you have to pay for supplies or training fees, you might want to do a little digging to make sure the business is legitimate.
It’s also strange to get offered a job without an interview, whether it’s in person or over the phone. The BBB says you should question the company if they aren’t interested in talking one way or another before offering the job.
The BBB also says it’s a bad idea to do work for a company before you’re actually hired. Before you do any work, request a contract or payment agreement first.
Another big red flag is if a company offers a big payday for a small task, like stuffing envelopes or answering phones. The BBB says a lot of times that’s a way to steal your personal information through a fake application process.
