JTA plans to break ground Thursday on final phase of project

The Jacksonville Transportation Authority is holding a virtual ground breaking Thursday to mark the start of the final phase of the 5th Street/McDuff Avenue JTA Mobility Works project.

The project started under the Better Jacksonville Plan, and the $3.3 million project will reconstruct a part of 5th Street from Melson Avenue to Huron Street.

JTA’s CEO Nathaniel Ford will be at the ground breaking along with City Council Member Garrett Dennis and JTA Board Chair Ari Jolly.

Part of the project will involve adding new bike lanes in each direction, sidewalks, lighting and drainage upgrades, water and sewer infrastructure, new curbing and the conversion of a two-lane roadway into a three-lane roadway.
