Arrest made in NW Jax shooting

Jacksonville police arrest a man in connection with yesterday's shooting on Prince St. in Northwest Jacksonville.

Theodist Richardson, 20, is under arrest in connection with the shooting that killed three people and critically wounded a baby.

At an early morning press conference, Chief Tom Hackney with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office says community involvement played a key role in bringing Richardson to justice.

"It's because of the community coming forward, becoming involved and telling us what they knew that we know who's involved," says Chief Hackney.

Those killed are Danielle Melton, 19; Kenneth Curry, 26; and Billy Johnson, 31.

Mark Smith, 16 mos., remains hospitalized at Shands Jacksonville in guarded condition.

Police are still looking for one more suspect.

Hackney says the motive for the shooting was a dispute over drug selling terrirory, and it was in retaliation for a pistol-whpping incident the previous night.

He also says it's unrelated to the recent shootings on Spruce St. and on Ken Knight Dr. East.
