Shots fired at Florida Highway Patrol during high speed chase

Jacksonville, Fl — A man is in custody and facing several charges after a high speed chase through Jacksonville and shots fired at Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers attempted to stop a speeding car just before 1:00 am on I-95 near the Fuller Warren Bridge. During the stop, the driver fled after giving the trooper his license.

During a pursuit the car came to a sudden stop, causing the trooper to overshoot it. That’s when the driver fired several shots toward the trooper.

With the assistance of the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, the vehicle was located traveling eastbound on Zoo Parkway. The driver of the vehicle lost control and struck a light pole on Zoo Parkway and Eastport Road. He was eventually taken into custody.

No one was injured throughout the ordeal. The driver’s name has not been released and we are working to update the charges he’s facing.
