City of St. Augustine Beach accepting resumes for vacant city commission seat

St. Augustine Beach FL — Following the resignation of a city commissioner last week, the City of St. Augustine Beach says it’s starting to accept resumes and letters of intent from people who are interested in filling the vacant seat. On Tuesday, the city sent out information about the process and we’re told whoever is picked to fill the seat will be in the position until the November election when voters will select a permanent commissioner. The city says candidates must be a resident for at least a year, be registered to vote and whoever is selected will need to keep a home in the city throughout the term. The city says the deadline for submissions will be Wednesday, February 23rd at 5 PM.

After that, there will be a special meeting scheduled for February 28th at 6 PM where interviews will take place and an interim city commissioner will be chosen. The meeting will be held at city hall and the public is encouraged to attend. Resumes and letters of intent should be emailed to the city manager Max Royle at mroyle@cityofsab.org.

We reported last week when Ernesto Torres resigned saying he wanted to spend more time with his family. Eight days before his resignation, a police report says his wife was arrested for DUI. According to that report, Torres was sitting in the passenger seat and both he and his wife appeared to be impaired. Police say that once an officer told Torres his wife was being arrested, he became angry and tried to call the sheriff and chief of police.
