Clark Howard: Good and bad news coming from Facebook’s security breach

Jacksonville, FL — Late last month, social media giant Facebook announced a massive security breach impacting millions of its users.

Now new information is coming from the breach and Consumer Warrior Clark Howard says there is both good and bad news to be shared.

Clark says the good news is the number of people impacted by the security breach has gone down. It was originally reported that 50-million people were affected by the breach, but new numbers show the number is now 30-million.

However, the bad news is what the people behind the breach were able to get on the users.

"What the crooks got was much more thorough than estimated before. It's considered to be the worst breach ever of the Facebook social media platform."

Clark says it possible those behind the breach were able to access users’ contact information, which device they are using Facebook from, their last physical location along with what they are searching on the website.

When it comes to credit card information and passwords, Clark says that information was not touched.

Clark says one piece of advice he would give is for users to stop using their Facebook account to log into other websites in lieu of creating a separate account for that particular site.
