Clark Howard: ‘Be proactive about your travel plans’

Jacksonville, Fl. — Flight delays are building up as the FAA mandates engine inspections following a deadly incident on a Southwest Airlines flight this month.

Consumer Warrior Clark Howard says these inspections could take some time because metal fatigue is not visible to the naked eye which means technology is being used to help with the inspections.

Clark suggests those who are planning to travel by air – despite the airline they are flying they should be proactive and double check their flight status.

"The early bird gets the worm here. The earlier you recognize there is a disruption with your flight, the easier it is for you to be rebooked on alternative transportation."

Clark says the worst time to find out a flight has been canceled is when the traveler arrives at the airport.

"And by then you are one of 150 or so people who have to be re-accommodated from your one flight and with as full as flights are, that becomes a problem."
