Clark Howard: Suez Canal shipping delays will mean ‘most minimal disruption ever’ to you

With the Suez Canal now clear and back to normal operations, WOKV’s Consumer Warrior Clark Howard says you don’t need to worry about supply shortages.

Howard says, unfortunately, there has been a small panic about toilet paper, but he says that shouldn’t have happened.

“There have been all these reports that we’re not going to have toilet paper and other things. You don’t need to run to the store to replenish your toilet paper. It was five days the canal was closed. We’re gonna be just fine. People were speculating about things as if the canal was going to be closed for months. Five days is going to lead to the most minimal disruption ever; we’re not going to notice it,” Howard says.

He says even if this disruption at the canal had been longer, we would have found ways around it.

“...people do adapt. As an example, when the Suez Canal clogged up, the Chinese moved goods to go on trains across Russia to get to Europe. We figure it out. So, even though this has been a short term disaster, particularly for shipping companies, for us, we’re not going to have to worry. We always make it work and our supplies are going to be fine,” says Howard.
