Clay Electric has lined up eight additional crews from out of state to help with restoration efforts if Hermine causes significant damage in the 14-county service area.
The utility is expecting the most damage to occur in its Lake City and Gainesville districts. And they will also shift crews from other districts to areas with the most damage in order to speed restoration.
Clay Electric Spokesman Wayne Mattox encourages members to review their storm preparations, have adequate supplies on hand, including medicines, and have a battery-powered radio available to listen for storm updates from the radio.
Members who are dependent on electricity for health reasons are urged to have an alternate source of power available in case of a power outage, or they should relocate to an area where power has not been affected.
If you plan to operate a portable generator during a power outage, you should only use them in well-ventilated area outdoors, because the exhaust fumes are deadly.
You shoulds not connect a portable generator to your homes' electrical circuits because this can allow the power from the generator to backfeed into Clay's distribution system.
