Consumer Warrior Clark Howard warning about COVID-19 vaccine scams

With COVID-19 vaccines in high demand, WOKV’s Consumer Warrior Clark Howard says you need to be on the lookout for potential scams.

Howard says one scam warning from the Federal Trade Commission involves people posing as representatives from the Social Security Administration.

“There are scammers who are calling people, saying they’re from the Social Security Administration, and that they’re calling to sign you up to receive your vaccine. And they’ll tell you that you have to give them key information. What do they want? They want your Medicare number, your name, address, and, potentially, your bank account information,” says Howard.

But Howard says the federal government wants you to know that this is an out-and-out scam.

“....[The] Social Security Administration is not involved in signing you up to receive a vaccine and will never under any circumstances, call you and ask you by phone, text, email, anything like that, for key personal information. Not gonna happen,” Howard says.
