Dr. Birx: W.H. coronavirus task force looking into what caused recent spike of cases in Florida

Jacksonville FL — During the White House coronavirus task force updated Wednesday, one of the nation’s top health experts, Dr. Deborah Birx says they’re looking into what caused the recent spike in new coronavirus cases in Florida. She says the number cases remained steady and low for almost five-weeks after reopening and then something happened that caused the spike.

“We’re investigating that very closely to really see the ideology behind that, ‘cause that can help us as an early warning signal, but also help us in guidance to the American people.” Dr. Birx says.

She says what ever happened in Florida happened at the same time across the south.

There are some potential positive signs for Florida that Dr. Birx talked about. She says the state is starting to see early signs of decreasing emergency room visits for coronavirus symptoms and they are hopeful there will soon be some stability to the number of new cases. She says the recent Fourth of July weekend could impact numbers in terms of under reporting and over reporting.

On Wednesday, the state health department reported a little more than 10,000 new coronavirus cases.
