Jacksonville man reports stray bullet shattered car window near Town Center

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A local man says he was eating at the Town Center when a stray bullet hit his back windshield.

The man, who wishes to remain anonymous, told Action News Jax he was eating at Chuy’s in the Town Center, then came out to his car and discovered the back window had been shattered by a bullet.

The man says he called police, and that an officer told him about 15 shots had been fired less than a mile from the area.

“I’ve been living in Jacksonville for almost 20 years, and I’ve never seen as many shootings around the neighborhood before,” Jamilette Malibet said.

Malibet is concerned shootings are getting more frequent in Jacksonville.

“To know about a shooting close to my neighborhood here in the Town Center, that’s something that is very scary,” she said.

Within the past four weeks between Town Center Parkway and Butler Blvd., JSO’s crime map shows at least 17 thefts and two assaults, but no other shooting incidents.

Action News Jax requested the police report and calls for service out to Chuy’s location Sunday. We’re still waiting on those reports.

A manager at the restaurant told Action News Jax he wasn’t even aware of the incident.

Meanwhile, Malibet says the city needs to step it up.

“The city and the officials, they should do something about it,” she said.

“Every time, they are closer to home, and I’m afraid somebody is going to get hurt real bad.”

The man told Action News Jax the city gave him a voucher to replace his window since he was a victim of a crime.
