JSO makes four arrests following illegal street racing in Baymeadows

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Police are cracking down on illegal street racing on Jacksonville’s Southside. This comes after dozens of cars took over Southside Blvd. last Saturday into Sunday morning, keeping neighbors awake with screeching tires as drivers did burnouts and donuts in the streets.

“It’s concerning. It’s getting closer and closer to my neighborhood,” Danelle McCaw said.

Like many of her neighbors, McCaw heard the noise last weekend.

Besides the noise being a nuisance, the drag racing is a safety concern for her.

“I mean you’re taking over an entire intersection. People can’t get out, you know, what about ambulances and that sort of thing,” she added.

Action News Jax has learned four men, Mursal Sayfatov, Mansur Iznurov, Suleyman Anvarovich Iznurov and Rakhmon Mukhammadevich Tairov – all between the ages of 26 and 34 – have been arrested and charged with racing on highways; speed, endurance, acceleration, and spinning tires.

All of the suspects arrested have several other traffic citations including speeding and careless driving.

“Y’all are too old to be doing that,” McCaw said of those arrested.

Action News Jax stopped by the addresses associated with those arrested, but nobody answered when we knocked.

“It’s pretty brazen,” McCaw added. “A pretty busy intersection and there’s always cops up and down here; that’s pretty bold.”

JSO said Thursday it is aware of the recent increase in car and motorcycle groups gathering in parking lots and roadways. JSO says it’s working with other state and local partners on education and enforcement strategies to address the issues.

We’ve asked JSO about how much weight those charges carry, if there will be more arrests, and if this is just the beginning of the crackdown. We’re still waiting to hear back.
