Escaped inmate arrested on FSCJ South campus

Jacksonville, FL — The escaped inmate who cut off his ankle monitor early Saturday morning was arrested late Monday on the campus of FSCJ South on Beach Boulevard.

Police said 22-year-old Micky Turner escaped from the Dinsmore Community Correctional Center on Old Kings Road on the northside.  JSO said the facility was alerted about the ankle monitor and later found it on Turner’s bed in his room.

Late Monday, an alert witness on the FSCJ campus off Beach Boulevard saw Turner and called police.  Turner fled, and police say they set up a perimeter.  A K-9 named Valor caught him.  Turner was booked into jail for escape.

According to the Florida Department of Corrections, the community release center where Turner was housed, allows inmates to learn valuable skills and provide job placement.

“Inmates granted community work release have minimal time left on their sentence, are minimum or community custody inmates, and have a history of good behavior while incarcerated”, said FDOC Press Secretary Patrick Manderfield.

The Department’s recapture rate for the 2017-2018 Fiscal Year was 94%.

WOKV pressed FDOC for a statement about Turner’s escape, the management running the facility, and whether FDOC believes the facility is being effectively managed.  So far our questions have not been answered.
