Excessive heat to take backseat to storms this week

Jacksonville, Fl — Our mini “heat wave” will take a backseat to a stormy week ahead. Storms started to increase Sunday and will be widespread for most of the rest of the week, especially Monday - Thursday.

Action News Jax Chief Meteorologist Mike Buresh says the pattern is somewhat unique for early August in that there will be a daily threat of severe storms. The greatest risk will be wind but possibly some hail.

Rainfall should end up more than a half foot within a week for some neighborhoods. While not likely, an isolated tornado or waterspout might occur. The upshot is that temperatures won’t be as hot.

July was wetter and cooler than normal in JAX and marked the 4th consecutive month with below normal temps. The peak heat index of 110F occurred on the last day of the month.
