Fall arrives with record-challenging temps

Jacksonville, Fl — We have to endure one more hot day before a gorgeous, cooler weekend. Action News Jax Chief Meteorologist Mike Buresh says we’ll soar into the mid-90s this afternoon, likely falling just short of the 1990 record of 96.

And it’s looking mainly dry through the next several days. Friday is when a cool front arrives - bringing lower humidity and temps in the 80s - very nice!

Our beaches will see dangerous rip currents and high surf as Hurricane Fiona passes by.

“We’ll have breakers averaging 4 feet or so today. 5, 6 feet at times tomorrow with a little bit of an extra oomph from the onshore flow”., said Buresh

Saturday and Sunday will be seasonally mild with low humidity and dry skies. Temperatures on Saturday will be in the low 80s, followed by cool, crisp nighttime lows.

Back to work and school on Monday will be hotter but still dry.

TROPICS: (1) Hurricane Fiona is turning north/NE & will be at about Jax’s latitude but 800-900 miles to the east this afternoon. Some rough seas & surf at our beaches with easterly swells, no inland impacts & no rain.

(2) tropical storm “Gaston” has formed over the Central Atlantic & will move northeast – no impact to the U.S.

(3) strong tropical wave is headed for the Caribbean & has the potential to develop over the next several days but may encounter the north coast of S. America before moving more north where conditions would ultimately be more favorable for strengthening by the weekend.

(4) couple strong tropical waves over far E. Atlantic but not expected to track across the Atlantic.
