FHP: No one hurt following traffic incident involving accidental gunshot

The Florid Highway Patrol says no one is hurt following a suspected DUI chase in southern St. Johns County Friday night. Troopers say just after 8, a trooper saw a Toyota Sienna, driven by the suspect Giovani Philogene, driving recklessly on S.R. 207 near I-95. FHP says the trooper started following Philogene and tried to signal to him to stop. That’s when FHP says Philogene fled and got on to I-95 and continued to driver recklessly while speeding. FHP says when the chase got to mile marker 306, another trooper and an auxiliary trooper joined to assist. FHP says they were able to use a P.I.T. maneuver to stop the chase and Philogene was arrested. FHP says when Philogene was taken into custody, one round from the auxiliary trooper’s department issued weapon was inadvertently fired.

Troopers say Philogene was taken to the St. Johns County Jail after the incident.
