WHAT: Mosquitoes - Mosquito-born diseases are not uncommon in Florida including malaria and yellow fever reported from time to time.

(Joao Paulo Burini)

The Florida Department of Health in Clay County is warning residents to try their best to stay away from mosquitoes after the county's first human case of West Nile Virus was confirmed Friday.
We told you in August when Duval and Nassau counties got their first case of the mosquito-borne disease, and in July, mosquitoes in Keystone Heights tested positive for the virus.

The Florida Department of Health in Clay County says residents should do their best to not get bit by mosquitoes by covering their body with clothes or bug repellent and drain standing water around their home.

The CDC says most people infected with the virus do not show symptoms, but about 20% of patients will have a fever and other problems like joint pain, headaches, and a rash. Fatigue and weakness could potentially last for weeks. In extreme cases, the virus could develop in to central nervous system problems.
