First Coast High School student arrested with loaded gun

Jacksonville, FL — A First Coast High School student has been arrested after bringing a loaded gun on to the campus.

An automated call from the principal to parents at the school confirmed that they received a tip from a student that another student had brought a weapon to the school. Following that, the campus was put on a Code Yellow lockdown, while school administration and Duval County School Police conducted a search.

The message says a loaded gun was found in the possession of a student, and the weapon was immediately confiscated. The student has been arrested and will face criminal charges as well as possible expulsion, according to the District.

We’re told no students or staff were threatened or harmed during the incident.

“While we are very pleased with the responsiveness and cooperation of our students, staff and security teams, we request your parental support. Please talk with your children about the serious consequences of bringing a firearm or weapon on campus. Encourage positive conflict resolution strategies and emphasize the importance of notifying a trusted adult whenever your child feels threatened,” says the message from the school’s principal.

According to the arrest report, a School Resource Officer discovered that the gun had nine rounds in the magazine and one in the chamber.  The serial number had been removed or altered so it could not be recognized.

The student, a 16-year-old boy, was charged with possession of a firearm on school property.
