First phase of major JTA transit project unveiled Thursday

Jacksonville, FL — A much-anticipated transportation project designed, constructed and owned by the Jacksonville Transportation Authority opens Thursday morning. JTA Public Relations Manager Leigh Ann Rassler says the ribbon-cutting and grand opening of the new Intercity Bus Terminal will begin at 9 am, but actual Greyhound service at the site won’t begin until early next week.

“Greyhound will use the brand new state-of-the-art facility for their intercity service. They will be vacating the current location on Bay Street. We look at it as a cornerstone of the Regional Transportation Center,” says Rassler.

The one-story 10,000 square foot bus terminal features an indoor waiting area, ticketing offices, a cafeteria, restrooms, nine bus bays, parking, and a customer drop off area on Stuart Street.

The new terminal is Phase One of a two phase operation. Phase Two includes planned fixed route bus operations, a bus rapid transit network, the Skyway and a planned move of JTA administrative offices to the Jacksonville Regional Transportation Center in LaVilla.

She hopes Greyhound will offer leases to regional bus lines to help better connect area bus service.  Greyhound will begin service at the new facility on Tuesday, April 17th.
