Jacksonville FL — According to numbers from the CDC, next week Florida is set to get only 37,000 doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. This comes a week after the state received a little more than 313,000 doses and a little over a week since it was reported that 15 million doses of the vaccine were ruined at a plant in Baltimore.
The lower number of doses isn’t unexpected, last week we reported when Governor Ron DeSantis said delays in shipments were possible over the coming weeks.
We checked in with the Florida Division of Emergency Management to see what potential impacts there could be from the lower number of doses and they tell us they do not expect any disruptions with vaccination efforts across the state. They say the doses are primarily used at the federally supported sites across the state, including the one at the Gateway Mall in Jacksonville, and at pop-up vaccination events and they are prepared to continue to move forward even with the lower number of doses. The state says last week they allocated Johnson & Johnson doses to pharmacies, hospitals, and other medical offices, and those entities may see a decrease in their allocation this coming week due to the lower number of doses received from the feds. We’re told the state is prepared to fill the void by allocating Pfizer and Moderna vaccines if they need them.
This week the state is set to receive 293,670 doses of the Pfizer vaccine and 217,400 doses of the Moderna vaccine.
