Jacksonville, Fl — Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has vetoed Senate Bill 810, which would have set new regulations for businesses that sell vape products, while also raising the age to buy tobacco to 21.
In his veto letter, DeSantis said the bill was superfluous given that the legal age to buy tobacco is 21, mandated by federal law under a bill signed into law in late 2019 by President Trump.
“This legislation would almost assuredly lead more people to resume smoking cigarettes, and it would drive others to the hazardous black market”, DeSantis said.
The Governor said he supports reducing the use of all nicotine-related products with underage kids, but it won’t be achieved by eliminating legal products for adults.
“....and by devastating the small businesses who provide these adults with reduced risk alternatives to cigarettes”, DeSantis said.
