“I would recommend up to 3 hours,” the biggest reasons for delays during summer travel at JIA

JACKSONVILLE, Fla — Summertime means a busy calendar for most families and airports are expe4cting an uptick in travelers.

“I would recommend up to 3 hours, because you might have trouble parking,” Sari Koshetz said.

She works with the Transportation Security Administration, better known as TSA. Koshetz warns more families on flights, means more parking spaces filled up.

Travelers should familiarize themselves with what you can and cannot bring on a plane, if you plane to bring a carry-on bag. Often times, people may leave things in their bags from a road trip that you can’t bring on a plane.

Firearms are a top slow down for the security checkpoint. You’re not allowed to travel with it in your carry on.

“It’s every day, every day, and it does of course slow down the line because the bag has to be pulled over,” Koshetz said. “The item has to be removed.”

Jacksonville International Airport (JIA) TSA agents confiscated 73 firearms, last year. It was a record for the airport. So far, its taken 27, this year. Statewide, 854 firearms were confiscated, last year. We’re on track to beat that with 275 taken, so far, in 2023, according to TSA.

Firearms can be checked, but it has to be unloaded and secure.
