Increasing rain coverage for the rest of this week

Jacksonville, Fl — Expect better rain chances the next couple of days thanks to a surge of tropical moisture and an upper level disturbance. Action News Jax Chief Meteorologist Mike Buresh is tracking some true tropical downpours that we’re accustomed to for this time of the year.

“Quick inch or two of rain then the sun comes out and it’s really steamy, right? That’s the kind of pattern we’re looking at. It’s not raining all the time, but there’ll be some heavy showers and thunderstorms so keep an eye to the sky, respect that lightning and realize that outdoor activities are likely to be interrupted right through the beginning of the holiday weekend.”, Buresh said.

And while temperatures will be mild in the upper 80s it’s still very humid, which will help produce the showers and thunderstorms and make them more evenly distributed.

Temperatures over the weekend will be near average. Independence Day will be hotter with only an isolated shower or storm expected.

TROPICS: A disturbance in the Western Gulf is bringing periods of heavy rain to the Texas Gulf Coast the next couple of days. A disturbance in the Southern Caribbean is tracking toward Central America. This may briefly strengthen to a named storm before making landfall near Nicaragua/Costa Rica. A tropical wave in the Western Atlantic will track up toward the Greater Antilles during the next several days, so we’ll watch it, but development doesn’t look likely.
