Jacksonville Beach mayor pleads for small gatherings this weekend

Jacksonville, FL — Saying everyone needs to work together, Jacksonville Beach Mayor Charlie Latham is asking you to avoid the beach if it’s too crowded this holiday weekend.

“Please, please, if it gets crowded and you’re heading out toward the beach, just turn around and head home and have a barbecue in the backyard”, Latham told Jacksonville’s Morning News.

Bars are closed, and the beach won’t host fireworks on Saturday night, but Latham said he’s still concerned about large gatherings.

“House parties, particularly down and around 1st Street, and that floods into the street and creates a little bit of havoc and we’re hopeful that we’ll have a good sensible, manageable crowd and that everybody takes care of themselves and their family”, Latham said.

Jacksonville Beach Police will be fully manned like a normal Independence Day weekend.
