JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - A Jacksonville family was asleep inside their home on Naomi Drive Saturday morning when their neighbors saw smoke coming from it.
“We drive down the street and the end of the house was on fire,” Tim Capeau said. “By the time I got to the porch, half the porch was on fire.”

Knowing kids live there, Capeau said he ran up to the door.
“I pounded on the door and started yelling, ‘Get out of the house,’” he said.
JFRD said family members were going back inside the house to try to rescue their pets.
One family member was burned. A firefighter was also taken to the hospital after twisting his ankle outside the home.
Another firefighter was surprisingly unhurt after falling through the roof.
The family was too shaken up to go on camera but told Action News Jax if their neighbors hadn’t banged on their doors, they might not be alive.
JFRD was able to get one of their dogs out of the house. At least one cat and chicken did not survive.
“I know animals are part of our families but most of the time animals are really resilient and can find their way out. It’s not worth putting yourself in peril, leave that up to us,” JFRD Capt. Eric Prosswimmer said.
As Red Cross helps the family, their neighbors said they’re praying they are able to get back on their feet quickly.
“Right before the holidays they lost their home,” Capeau said. “Praying for all the family.”
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
