Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens announces new sensory inclusive certification

Jacksonville, FL — The Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens announced Tuesday it's now certified as a sensory inclusive organization.

The Zoo says it partnered with KultureCity to earn the certification, which included special training for staff by medical professionals on how to recognize guests that may have sensory needs and how to handle sensory overload situations.

The Zoo says with the certification, they hope to provide a more accommodating experience for individuals with sensory sensitivities and for individuals with autism, dementia, PTSD, and other conditions.

Families visiting the Zoo can download the free KultureCity App to learn more about how to access sensory features at the Zoo.

This certification includes new sensory bags available for guests who may feel overwhelmed. We're told the bags include noise canceling headphones, fidget tools, and verbal cue cards.
