Jaguars President apologizes following national anthem demonstration in London

Jacksonville, FL — The Jaguars have apologized to the City of Jacksonville for the actions of more than a dozen players who kneeled during the national anthem at their London game.

Days after the game, Jaguars President Mark Lamping wrote a letter to the City's Director of Military Affairs, saying they did not intentionally want to send a message that would disparage the city, our flag, or our nation.

Lamping cited a meeting that had happened the Thursday after the Jaguars win over the Ravens.

“Speaking for Shad and Tom (Coughlin), who has known for many years how you’ve positively shaped the personality and reputation of our city, this letter provides an opportunity to pay our gratitude for making Jacksonville much more than a football town. We thank you”, he wrote.

Lamping says the team did not realize the message that would be sent when players stood for God Save the Queen, after kneeling for the national anthem.

“As we covered during our conversation on Thursday, this was an oversight and certainly not intended to send a message that would disparage you, our flag or our nation. We owe you an apology and we hope you will accept it”, Lamping said.
