JEA CEO responds to a call for his resignation

Jacksonville, FL — The CEO of JEA says he serves at the pleasure of the JEA Board.  Aaron Zahn released a short statement this morning regarding a call for his resignation by board member Henry Brown.

“I serve at the pleasure of the Board of JEA. I understand and respect Board member Henry Brown’s decision and will abide by any decision of the Board”, Zahn said in a statement provided by JEA Media Relations Manager Gina Kyle.

The Florida Times Union was first to report Henry Brown plans to try to terminate Zahn during Tuesday’s board meeting. Brown wants to name Melissa Dykes, JEA’s chief operating officer, as the interim CEO.

Zahn has faced criticism for his handling of a strategic review that is underway since a vote by the JEA Board in late July.  Most recently the criticism came from multiple City Council Members pertaining to an incentive plan that the JEA Board is set to formally scrap on Tuesday.

Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry released the following statement:

The JEA Board of Directors consists of dedicated leaders in our community who volunteer their time and expertise. Each board member was appointed by me and confirmed by the City Council. As a result, I will support any action this board takes when it comes to a decision on the future of CEO, Aaron Zahn.
