Jacksonville - The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office says one man was shot and killed by police after coming towards an officer with a knife at a Gate gas station Thursday morning.
According to JSO, they were called to the store on Emerson off of Philips Highway at 6:51a.m. to help JFRD with an armed combative person.
Employees told police the man came into the store carrying a knife in his right hand and speaking “unintelligibly.” Police say employees became increasingly concerned when the suspect opened a bottle of an unknown liquid and poured it on the floor. He then proceeded to the register area, where he essentially blocked some employees in.

JSO says 21-year veteran of the department, R.C. Santoro, entered the gas station, confronting the suspect behind the counter. Customers were able to evacuate the store safely, though it’s not clear how many people were inside at the time.
Police say Officer Santoro ordered the suspect to drop his knife and get on the ground. The suspect did not, according to JSO, instead moved toward the officer, and the officer opened fire.
The suspect was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. No further information on him is available.

Officer Santoro is now on administrative leave. This is his 3rd police-involved shooting during his time with JSO.
Police are expected to give additional information in a later press conference, Thursday afternoon.
