JSO searching for gray SUV after hit-and-run crash that killed man crossing Golfair in a wheelchair

Jacksonville, FL — The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office is asking for any information, after a fatal hit-and-run crash involving a pedestrian.

JSO tells us Howard McKnight, 54, was crossing Golfair Boulevard in a wheelchair, when a vehicle traveling eastbound hit him, near Moncrief Road, Wednesday morning, around 6:10 am.

Police say a small, gray SUV was seen speeding away from the area around that time.

McKnight was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, but police say he later died at the hospital.

JSO says this is the 71st traffic death in Duval County so far this year and the 20th pedestrian killed.
